Book Review: Odium II by Claire C. Riley

Odium II by Claire C. Riley
Series: The Dead Saga #2
Source: Kindle Unlimited
Genre: Zombie Post-Apocalypse

Fortune favours…the DEAD!

Some secrets are too horrific to ever be forgiven, and some people should never be trusted.

Tortured, starved and on the run, Nina thinks she’s faced the worst that mankind has to offer, but she’s wrong. She may have survived this long, but she’s not come out of it unscathed, and there’s worse to come.

Nina’s trusty Doc Martins are showing signs of the zombie Apocalypse, and she isn’t faring much better. With her snarky attitude guaranteed to get her in trouble, Nina needs to forgive the past, and to live once more in the present, and learn that sometimes she needs to place her trust in other people.

Because when people are faced with the end of times, they’ll do anything to survive.

This book pretty much picks up right where book one ended. Nina, Em and Mikey are being help captive by The Forgotten after their entire crew was killed. Things are looking pretty bleak with winter approaching and Mikey's loyalties under question. I don't really want to go into much more detail because so much happens in this book. It was so exciting getting to experience how it unravels and I don't want to take that away from other readers.

This book introduced so many new ideas and theories about this new post-apocalyptic world. There were so many twists, turns and big reveals that I was kept on the edge of my seat. I loved how this story was told. New characters are introduced and we get to read some from their POV. There are also flash backs and flash forwards that are used perfectly to reveal important information.

I love seeing how Nina's relationships with the other characters, especially Em and Mikey, evolved in this book. Both relationships are dynamic and there is a strong push-and-pull between the characters. Em wants independence as she gets older, but Nina has a hard time not looking at her as the girl that she saved from behind the wall. Mikey wants to be Nina's prince in shinning armor, but Nina does not want to be a damsel in distress.

This book really felt like a journey and so much happens in it. I really can't wait to see what happens next, especially with the huge cliff hanger!
